Things Are Getting Hot on “Burn Notice”
When asked why someone should tune into the sophomore season of “Burn Notice,” star Jeffrey Donovan summed it up nicely: “It’s a summer show, there’s nothing else on, it’s got action and there are some pretty hot women on the show.” Now that’s a pitch that’s hard to beat.
While the show does have big action and sexy ladies on Miami Beach, “Burn Notice” is more than “Miami Vice” Redux. “Burn Notice” is a sun-soaked mixture of “MacGyver” and “The Bourne Identity” with “Rockford Files”-style reluctant hero. An intriguing metaplot of mystery and shadowy conspiracy tie the weekly adventures together.
“Burn Notice” features Donovan as Michael Westen, a CIA-type who was his given “burn notice,” as the spy lingo goes - basically he’s been laid off. In the first season, Michael woke up in Miami broke, injured, and with all of his credentials and access stripped. To earn money, Westen works as private investigator and general problem solver. In his off hours, he tries to breach the fortress of international espionage to find out who burned him and why.
Variously helping and hindering him on his path to uncover the truth is his old friend retired spy Sam (Bruce Campbell), his ex-girlfriend and former IRA member Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), and his overbearing mother Madeline (Sharon Gless).
With the first season out on DVD, you have the perfect opportunity to get caught up before season two starts on July 10th. This year, look for Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer as a very evil, very sexy woman of mystery. In our interview, Donovan and Campbell promised that “Burn Notice” will be even hotter than before. Soon I’ll declassify more from the interview with Donovan and Campbell including how Donovan’s revelation that his “Burn Notice” skills help make sure there’s “lot less rodents” at his house.
